Getting Started You don’t have to have it all figured out

Many families reach out unsure if their child needs an evaluation. They may have a feeling, a question from their pediatrician, or a noticeable difference they can’t name. You don’t need a referral or certainty to contact us. Our team will help you determine if an evaluation is right for your family and what that process entails.

What Autism Testing at ANNA Looks Like

  • Comprehensive, multi-session process

A diagnostic evaluation at ANNA is a comprehensive, multi-session process conducted by a clinical psychologist with deep expertise in child development and autism. It is designed to give your family a complete, honest, and affirming picture of your child, not just a yes or no answer.

  • Assessment and getting to know your child

Our evaluations go well beyond a single assessment tool. We look at how your child thinks, communicates, plays, processes sensory information, and moves through the world. We talk with you at length, because you are the expert on your child and your family’s experience is central to everything we do.

  • Concrete recommendations

The result is not just a diagnostic conclusion. It is a detailed, strengths-based report that describes your child fully, leads with their capabilities, and provides concrete recommendations for the support that will help them flourish as exactly who they are.

Benefits

What Makes ANNA’s Approach Different

  • Specialist neuropsychologists

We focus on understanding autistic children deeply, accurately, and with genuine respect for who they are.

  • Strengths-based reporting

Your child’s evaluation report travels with them through school, therapy, IEP meetings, and medical visits.

  • Neuroaffirming throughout

From the moment your child arrives at our center until you receive their report, we embrace a neuroaffirming approach.

  • A direct pathway to care

If your child receives a diagnosis and ABA therapy is recommended, ANNA can offer a pathway into our NDBI ABA program.

  • Insurance coverage

Diagnostic evaluations are covered by MassHealth and nearly all commercial insurance plans.

  • Convenient scheduling

Sessions are scheduled at participating ANNA centers at times that work for your family.

Options for next steps

What happens after a diagnosis

  • Comprehensive report

A comprehensive written report with findings, strengths, and recommendations

  • Feedback session

Session with your clinical psychologist to walk through the report, answer every question, and make sure you leave with clarity

  • Guidance on next steps

Whether that is ABA therapy, school supports, speech or occupational therapy, or other services

A diagnosis doesn’t change your child. It gives us a shared language to understand them, and a clearer path to support them.

Not sure if your child needs a full evaluation?

If you are earlier in the process, an autism screening may be a helpful and low-pressure first step. Screenings are brief tools that help identify whether a full diagnostic evaluation makes sense for your child.
